Biography - Mr. Adam O. Letourneau, K.C., C.Arb., C.Med.
Adam Letourneau, K.C., is managing partner of LETOURNEAU LLP. He is an arbitrator, mediator, adjudicator and lawyer. Adam has significant experience in consensual labour arbitration and in employment, contract and family law arbitration and mediation. He has also adjudicated various unjust dismissal complaints under Part III of the Canada Labour Code. His is a roster member of the Alberta Labour Relations Grievance Arbitration Roster.
Adam has practiced law primarily in the areas of family law and civil litigation, along with a general practice since 2006. He was significantly involved as claimant counsel for the Indian Residential School Independent Assessment Process cases for a number of years and attended hundreds of adjudication hearings.
Adam was elected as a bencher (governor) of the Law Society of Alberta in 2011 and again in 2015. During his terms, he acted as an adjudicator for numerous conduct and appeal hearings. He was an adjunct professor between 2016 and 2024 at the University of Lethbridge Dhillon School of Business, teaching various courses in labour and employment law, negotiations in collective bargaining and business law. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Alberta and a post-graduate LLM degree in law in international dispute resolution from UCL - University of London. He was appointed as King’s Counsel in 2015. He was appointed as a chartered arbitrator in 2012 and as a chartered mediator in 2011.
Adam has been the chair of the designations committee (for chartered mediators and chartered arbitrators) for the ADR Institute of Canada as well as for the ADR Institute of Alberta. He was most recently vice-resident of the Canadian Institute for the Administration of Justice. He has been a director or chair of various organizations and/or committees including with Legal Aid Alberta, Apeetogosan (Métis) Business Development Inc., Rupertsland Institute and is the former co-editor-in-chief of the Alberta Law Review. Adam is currently appointed by the Alberta government as a public member of the CPA Alberta Discipline and Appeal Tribunals Roster. He is a co-author of the fifth edition of Employment Law for Business and Human Resources Professionals: Alberta and British Columbia (Emond, 2025). He is also the author of the book So, You Want to be a Lawyer, Eh? Law School in Canada, Third Edition (RCT Press, 2019).
Adam is available for and travels for arbitrations and mediations throughout Alberta.
